Teaching Interests

I strive to facilitate the learning process for my students. I love nature, logical thinking, discovery and knowledge sharing, and I have been told that such attributes are evident when I talk. While enthusiasm is an effective motivational tool, it is not enough for a strong and interesting course. Just as musical virtuosity reaches its best when supported by solid musicianship, a good course has many preparatory aspects which I constantly improve and tailor to my audience.

Research Focus

Acoustic communication systems are the main subject of research in my lab. My students and I study hearing, voice and behavior. We relate performance to anatomical structure and reveal novel design principles. We also manipulate the environment to determine how it affects communication behavior.
